This study examines the import dependency of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector and its implications for export competitiveness, net foreign exchange earnings, and future policy planning. Given the sector’s reliance on imported inputs and vulnerability to global supply chain disruptions, production costs, and external economic factors, the study analyzes the nature, extent, and determinants of import dependency. It reviews the structure of RMG exports and related imports, including raw cotton, yarn, textiles, fibers, and other essential inputs, to assess trends and dependency patterns over time.
