Non-communicable disease (NCD) awareness and risk factor prevalence among university students and other communities in Bangladesh

Abstract

This cross-sectional study assessed NCD knowledge, lifestyle risk behaviors, and related factors among university students and community adults in 2026. Among 301 respondents, NCD knowledge was generally good (mean score: 10.02/13), but unhealthy behaviors were common, including low physical activity, prolonged screen time, insufficient sleep, academic stress, and tobacco use. Older age, Pharmacy study, and family history of NCDs were associated with higher knowledge. The findings highlight a gap between NCD awareness and healthy lifestyle practices and support targeted health education and preventive interventions.
