    Abstract
The curriculum for English language and literature studies at universities in Bangladesh is designed to meet appropriate linguistic and cognitive standards through second language acquisition. This can be achieved through the integrated and strategic study of English language and literature, enabling students to develop second language proficiency based on Stephen Krashen’s Monitor Model in EFL classrooms. The authors employed a mixed-methods research design for data collection. Primary data were collected from 160 tertiary-level students studying English Language and Literature at 16 renowned universities through questionnaires and focus group discussions. Secondary data were collected from existing scholarly works by Krashen. The data will be analyzed based on the principles of the Monitor Model. The study will also identify shortcomings in current teaching practices and provide recommendations for developing a more effective EFL teaching environment, ultimately contributing to the academic and socio-economic development of tertiary-level students.
