| dc.description.abstract | This study examines the social and emotional impact of AI-generated deepfake content on women in Bangladesh. Using focus group discussions with women from diverse backgrounds, it explores their awareness, experiences, and the responses of families, communities, and institutions. The findings reveal that deepfakes contribute to mental distress, reputational harm, fear of online participation, and distrust in legal systems, while informal support networks often compensate for inadequate institutional responses. The study highlights deepfakes as a growing form of online gender-based violence and recommends stronger legal frameworks, digital safety initiatives, public awareness campaigns, and collaborative efforts to ensure the responsible use of AI and better protection for women. | en_US |
