Green financing has emerged as a key tool for promoting sustainability among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), yet many SMEs continue to face challenges in accessing the funds required for sustainable transition. Critical enablers such as strong corporate governance, effective stakeholder engagement, and supportive regulatory incentives expand opportunities for SMEs to adopt sustainable practices. While green finance promotes environmental responsibility, innovation, and transparency through sustainability reporting, its implementation remains uneven across regions and industries. Barriers including unclear regulations, stringent collateral requirements, low financial literacy, and limited access to sector-specific financing continue to hinder adoption. This paper reviews global patterns, key drivers, and major obstacles shaping green financing for SMEs, drawing evidence from China, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the United States, and Europe. By examining diverse regional contexts, the study highlights the conditions that facilitate or constrain the adoption of green finance and offers practical insights for strengthening SME development through sustainable financing.en_US
